Android Game Review: Avoid Elite
Welcome to our new Android game review on Playandroid. Today, we take a look at the tiny little arcade game”Avoid Elite”. In “Avoid Elite” you have to avoid the enemy. I know this sounds awkward, but it is the key of the game. All enemies in this game are orange squares in different sizes. All you have to do, is avoid the squares and survive as long as you can.
The idea of “Avoid Elite” is simple and addicting. You play for five minutes and after these you play for another five minutes and this goes on and on and on. Easy to pick up but hard to master. For more information read our complete review of “Avoid Elite” here on Playandroid.
Graphics: Dead Space?
Some purple stars, a black background that is the first thing you see after you started the game. It is not a flashy graphical nuclear bomb, it is a standard casual arcade game with mediocre graphics. The only difference between you and your opponent is the color. You play as the green square and your enemies are the orange ones. On the one side this is not the greatest character design ever and for an arcade game like this it is not enough. On the other side “Avoid Elite” is an arcade game with old school flair. Overall it is ok, but I have seen much better games in the past.
Graphics: 2/5
Sounds: Deaf Space?
The developer brings realism back to games. As we all know their is no sound in space and that is what the developer gives us here. Your hear nothing! I mean NOTHING. Thank you for that^^.
Sounds: 0/5
Controls: Basic and good!
In “Avoid Elite” you have the full control over your square and this with just one hand. Use the dpad on the right or left side to control your spaceship. It simple, easy to pick up and it works great. “Avoid Elite” gives you the possibility to play the whole game with only one finger. This fits very good to the arcade feeling of the game. The controls are precise and direct. For a game like this, precision is everything and in this category the developer did everything right. The only thing I miss, is an option to use the tilt controls of the device.
Controls: 4/5
Scope: The Standard?
“Avoid Elite” offers you three different game-modes. The marathon mode, the collect mode and the power mode. With these three types you have enough content to play “Avoid Elite” for hours. So the game gives you enough freedom to pick your favorite playstyle. My favorite mode is the power mode. Here the goal is it to collect various power-ups to upgrade your character. You collect the power-ups by flying over them. I use the shield extra very offten, because it not only protects you from the enemies, it even kills them. The other modes bring a little variation into the simple gameplay of “Avoid Elite”. What I miss is a Leaderboards, Achievements, Multiplayer and many many more levels.
Scope: 3/5
Atmosphere: A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away!
Where am I in “Avoid Elite”. Am I in space or in a parallel square universe? Do you wanna know something! I do not know it and I think it is something of both worlds. Overall there is no big atmosphere. Without any story or believable characters the games atmosphere falls by the wayside. That is why I can only give two points in this category! One for the funny setting and one point for the retro arcade vibe.
Atmosphere: 2/5
Fun Factor: Easy to pick up hard to master?
It is simple and easy. That is all what I can say about the fun factor of “Avoid Elite”. If you need a fast arcade game experience, “Avoid Elite” is the right game for you.
Fun Factor: 3/5
Conclusion:
“Avoid Elite” brings real old school arcade feeling on your android devices. It is not perfect and the technical issues (no sound?) are a big problem. Overall “Avoid Elite” is a good arcade game nothing more and nothing less.
